My Sewing Room assists many charities in many different ways. We promote and sponsor their events, we donate our classroom space, we donate fabric and most importantly, our staff, teachers and customers donate their time and skills.
We were a drop-off centre for quilts for Fort McMurray residents displaced by the wildfire. We also hosted a quilting bee as well as Linda’s Charity Quilting Birthday Party. Please see our Fort McMurray Fire 2016 pages for details.
We were the Command Post for the High River Quilt Initiative, accepting donations of fabric, batting and quilts, hosting sewing bees and helping with the distribution of finished quilts to those affected by the 2013 Southern Alberta Floods. Please see our Alberta Floods 2013 pages for more info.
See our Giving Back classes to find which projects you would like to get involved with.
The Quilts From the Heart group was recognized on October 21, 2015 for making over 1,000 quilts for the Calgary Police Service Child Abuse Unit for kids in crisis. The Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre stopped by to present them with a signed group photo and a cake to mark the moment.
Thank you to each and every quilter who has participated in this endeavour, and also to those who have contributed fabric or batting to support this group.
Some of the charities that we have been a part of are listed along the left. Please help us continue to contribute to these worthy causes.
